....Helicopter Girl

Thank God for Helicopter Girl! Helicopter Girl is Jackie Joyce. Following a nomination for a Mercury Music Prize for her debut album amid a blaze of publicity, she delivered a tour de force of a record with her follow up "Voodoo Chic"; re-inventing herself with some sumptuous chill-out/pop music. This was set to be her break-through record after the album was made Record of the Week on BBC Radio 2 and the immense single "Angel City" was one of the most played radio records of the year.

Just as everything was falling in to place at last she befell an unusual brain malady which was initially wrongly diagnosed, leading to an extended illness. She checked herself into accident and emergency in excruciating pain. Jackie being Jackie the admitting doctors thought she was barking mad and promptly put her in a straight jacket. I kid you not.

So Jackie unwittingy ducked out of the promotion for Voodoo Chic and it was three years before she returned with her electronic opus "Metropolitan". Check out the irresistable "It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This". It will do soon, Jackie. It will do soon.
